Building today's youth... Tomorrow's leaders

Caribe Youth Saturday Academy

Bridgeport Caribe Youth League is launching its 3rd annual SAT prep program for Bridgeport high school students. Our course runs from January 2012 to March 2012 and will be held Saturday mornings at the University of Bridgeport campus. Due to our partnership with UB, we are able to keep our program fee very low for students ($60) and all costs go to cover books and materials for students. If you are currently a junior in high school please consider learning more about our program.

Caribe Youth Saturday Academy

About Bridgeport Caribe Youth League:

Eight years ago, Sam and John Torres established the Bridgeport Caribe Youth League (BCYL) to honor the memory of their late father, Martin, who passed away in August 2003. Their goal was to provide children, especially the Latino children in the city of Bridgeport, with a dedicated activity in which they could participate and grow. Today the Caribe Youth baseball and basketball leagues serve nearly 500 children in the greater Bridgeport area. Caribe’s motto, "Building Today's Youth;
Tomorrow's Leaders," sums up our vision of instilling pride, integrity, commitment and respect in our youngsters in the hopes that they will evolve into trustworthy leaders of our community.

About Caribe Youth Saturday Academy:

The SAT prep tutoring academy is designed for all Caribe League and Bridgeport high school student in their Junior year. As an organization, we aspire to see all our students attend college after high school, but we have found that many are held back from attending college because of their SAT scores. Since performance on the SAT is one of the most critical aspects of the college admissions process, Caribe has held the Saturday Academy for the last two years with great success. We aim to provide the student access to a high quality SAT preparatory curriculum regardless of their economic background.

Program Specifics:

The tutoring program will run from January to March with the first pre test to be given in December. Classes will be held on the University of Bridgeport campus on Saturday mornings from 9:00AM to 1:00PM. The first two hours of the day will be dedicated to math instruction and the
following two hours will focus on critical reading and writing instruction. There will be a 30‐minute break in between sessions for both students and tutors. Tutors will be required to teach the subject area they feel strongest in, but flexibility in teaching either subject is highly preferred. Class sizes will average 10 students per 1 tutor.

The Caribe staff will provide materials before the start of the program so that tutors
will be successful in teaching the SAT curriculum.
