Sam and John Torres established the Bridgeport Caribe Youth League (BCYL) in memory of their late father, Martin, who passed away in August 2003. Their goal was to provide children, especially the Latino children in the city of Bridgeport, with a dedicated activity in which they could participate and grow.

The baseball and basketball leagues serve nearly 500 children in the greater Bridgeport area.

The League's Board of Directors is comprised of many Latino civic and professional leaders who have been working to ensure its success. BCYL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that relies on public contributions.
