VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Coach (Volunteer-Baseball, Softball, or Basketball)

RESPONSIBILITIES

The coach will teach basic sport strategies to an assigned group of youngsters which foster an environment of teamwork, respect and sportsmanship. Hence, via proper mental and physical development the youth will aspire to become better citizens.

He/she will perform a variety of duties which include but are not limited to:

· Must adhere to BCYL’s mission and Code of Conduct.

· The coach serves as a mentor to the youth and keeps them engaged and involved in the team and BCYL’s activities.

· The coach must be inclusive to each player on the team to maximize their development.

· Arrive 30 minutes prior to practice and/or game time and maintain attendance log.

· Maintain a progress report on each player.

· Help identify potential assisting coaches and/or team parents.

· Inspect the athletic area is safe and playable and take all necessary precautions to safeguard athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.

· Identify assigned on- site coordinator prior to practice and game in the event a situation arises.

· Establish and maintain open communication with parents, players and BCYL staff.

· Communicate with Director of Sports when team is unable to practice or play at least 12 hours prior to schedule date and time.

· Report accident or incident immediately following the game to Director of Sports and On-Site Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Basic Knowledge of rules and regulation for the sport they coach.

· Must be detail-oriented and highly organized.

· Maintain a professional attitude, be a team player, and have the ability to handle conflict and confidential information.

 

REPORTS TO

Director of Sports

All candidates are subject to a background check and be Abusive Preventive System (APS) and CPR/First Aid certified. In addition, baseball and Softball coaches must pass Cal Ripken and/or Babe Ruth Certification.
